Exhaling

The sky is the only omnipresence we all accept. So look up!

Prayers please

My father passed  away very suddenly over the weekend, and it has been a whirlwind of activity and tears and out-of-town relatives.

2323232327ffp633dot3e23373d953a3d96 It began with a police officer in our driveway to tell us there had been a “medical emergency” (he declined to give me a status, but my gut read his grave manner), a frantic drive to the hospital (while praying over and over, “I don’t know what I’m walking into, but I know that nothing happens today that You haven’t planned. I trust in You.”), taking my mother in to see the body, and then the many phone calls to let everyone know, the children gathering to grieve. As so many at the hospital said to us, “This way is easy for the deceased, but most difficult for those who are left behind.” Es verdad.

It has been difficult for all of us, especially his 21 grandchildren, who will miss “Papa.”

We buried my dad yesterday and are just now finding our equilibrium; it will be some days before we resume our routine here. In the interim, we are eternally grateful for the kind thoughts and prayers that so many have already sent our way, and for all that we do not know about.

May God repay you as only He can.

My heartfelt condolences, kt, to you, your Mom, and your whole family. This has been a shock and, as you say, created a whirlwind of necessary activities, done more or less on automatic pilot.

May his soul rest in peace eternally, and may you all gain strength from each other in the weeks and months to come.

So sorry to hear this, Kathryn. May your father rest in peace. What a lovely and loving family you have. This will help.

My heart felt sympathy in your loss. Since the loss of my father was not sudden, I can only imagine the sting and anxiety you felt. There is consolation in knowing that, though he will be greatly missed, you all have such grand memories that none can take away. God bless you and your entire family and may he rest in the peace of Almighty God.

It’s still unreal and so very raw, Kath. I’m here if you need me.

I’m so sorry for you, a stranger, but I so feel for you, I lost my dad the same way. Its shocking. I will pray for you, I love your wisdom: this has already passed through God’s hands. Hang onto that, because when it gets really raw, remember the Psalm “Tears may last for a night time, but joy comes in the morning.”

Yes, it is very raw still, though we are finally getting our bearings.
I asked a friend, “Since my dad took a leap on Leap Day, does this mean we only have to remember this once every 4 years?” He said, “Oh, I think you’ll be remembering this more than you care to.”
Yes, it is with us every day.

During these difficult days, every kindness is so deeply appreciated, and our family is so grateful for every card and email and comment expressing sympathy and offering prayers, for us and for my dad.

These kindnesses encourage us to move on and go forward.

Without Papa.
