Paring down. Getting back to the essentials, stripping away everything extraneous, outside and in. We carry so much baggage around with us, in case we need it to excuse ourselves or make sense of ourselves to ourselves. But really, we can't run in the ways of the Lord if we are burdened with all our stuff, mental and spiritual and physical. Our guilt. Our accomplishments. Those we blame. Those who praise us. The things we've done. The things we've failed to do. Surrender. Lent is about surrender. Radical uncluttering. Isn’t that what Lent is all about, really? Paring down.
