Exhaling

The sky is the only omnipresence we all accept. So look up!

Preparing to prepare

Filed under: Lent, poetry — kathryntherese at 5:52 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Tomorrow we embark on a journey anew.

We are always “on the way,” but during these 40 days we are invited to take a closer look at how well we are travelling.

Maybe we need to lighten our load, walk more deliberately, more steadfastly, or reach out more generously to others on the road.

Let us pray to be open to what the Lord is telling us to do, and ask Him to give us the courage and grace to make those changes.

In this pain

is Your call

to look on You

deep within me

and remain with You

in the silence

where You speak

and the darkness

where You wait.

O Heart of Light

hidden here, but

calling to my own

clouded heart!

Clear the cluttered

chambers – empty

them utterly, so that

in them may echo

the rhythm of Your own

Heart, beating steadily

with love

for me…

“Uncluttering” is something several bloggers I’ve visited recently have mentioned as their primary goal this Lent. It sounds sooooooo good to me…

Isn’t that what Lent is all about, really? Paring down. Getting back to the essentials, stripping away everything extraneous, outside and in.

We carry so much baggage around with us, in case we need it to excuse ourselves or make sense of ourselves to ourselves. But really, we can’t run in the ways of the Lord if we are burdened with all our stuff, mental and spiritual and physical.

Our guilt. Our accomplishments. Those we blame. Those who praise us. The things we’ve done. The things we’ve failed to do.

Surrender. Lent is about surrender. Radical uncluttering.

Amen. And it’s nearly as painful as being born.
