Amen.
Beautiful.
And if even one accepts His peace, then His gift has been fully received. From what we can know, Mary was first to accept it, then Joseph, then John the Baptist-to-be, and then John's mother-to-be, Elizabeth. A promise, yes, followed by incredulity, as we watch the news. For us, it's already and not yet. I've been part of the not yet sector. Daughter started a list on the white board -- each of our names followed by a colon: we are to write what we want for Christmas so that no one will labor to guess. My entry was truthful: "Peace on earth (and a Jag XKE)." Of course I'm kidding about the Jag (any model will do), and mostly hopeful about the peace thing-- but there is peace, here. It goes from lit candle to waiting candle. It's just very slow, because there are a lot of cold candles.

Humans being just poor humans, we tend to get discouraged, and we often forget that His peace has indeed been promised. As we work towards peace on earth, we must cling to His promise, for it is the Word of the Lord.

This is really, really beautiful, Kathyrntherese. Your writing and teasing out of its meaning makes Advent both a time of preparation and wonderful anticipation of peace the world cannot give.
